Day 1: Getting along
" 7a.m. alright? Everybody take a good rest tonight and tomorrow is THE DAY! See ya!"
And that launched our story of this social engagement!
The next day...
" Alamak, we took the wrong route! Will be there after a while! "
And that was what we, the first team, heard from a call from the another team.
Got the idea of what we did there already?
Okay, so we are actually students from University of Malaya, currently studying Bachelor of Finance, and we are taking the "Social Engagement" course which requires us to get ourselves committed in the society and basically this course aims to raise our awareness towards what is happening in our society.
Therefore, the project that we chose for this course was paying a visit to an orphanage that is Rumah At-Taqwa (or more likely a welfare home) and doing a series of activities for that two-days-one-night visit.
Setting our foot into the house, what we saw was the excited-but-a-little-shy expression on the faces of a bunch of kids. They were sitting in the hall line by line, and we could saw how much had they anticipated our arrival.
Let's explore what's inside this Rumah At-Taqwa!
Right after all the members arrived, we started our first activity: ice breaking session.
Immediately
after the ice breaking session, we moved on to the LDK session with the theme
“Pulau Impian” which means Dream Island. Each group was given a big ‘mah-jong
paper’ and they were asked to draw what they wished to have in an island if they
were to stay there on that paper. We were really amazed by their creativity
because they thought of things that I would never really think of.
Besides, we were also touched to know that actually their mindset was simple – they did not ask for something luxurious, instead what they drew on the paper were like restaurant, mosque, garden and etc.
After that, there came our lunch time.
